Rep. John Yarmuth, Kentucky Democrat, said Wednesday that there are enough votes in the House to pass comprehensive immigration reform if Speaker John A. Boehner were to bring it up for a vote.
“We’re confident there are more than enough votes in the House to pass comprehensive reform if we can get it to a vote,” he said on MSNBC. “This is all about politics, not the policy.”
Lawmakers on both sides of the aisle want to reform the immigration system, Mr. Yarmuth said, and he hopes it’ll get a vote once many of the early election year worries for Republicans have passed.
“I’m still pretty optimistic that once we get past the primary season and the filing dates that Speaker Boehner is going to try to bring something to the floor,” he said.
