Rep. Adam Schiff, California Democrat, said Wednesday that it’s important to implement stronger sanctions on Russia to prevent further invasion of Ukraine.
“I do think we need stronger sanctions,” he said on MSNBC. “The challenge is getting Europe to move forward with stronger sanctions and stronger implementation of the sanctions we have.”
While there’s a possibility that imposing more sanctions could provoke Russia, Mr. Schiff said the greater risk is in inaction.
He said there is more American can be doing to help Ukraine, without putting the U.S. military at risk, and that it’s important to get stronger sanctions and consequences lined up now if Russian President Vladimir Putin invades Ukraine further.
