TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - Get ready for plenty of orange barrels across Ohio.
The Ohio Department of Transportation’s construction season this year will include more than 900 construction projects totaling $2.5 billion.
Gov. John Kasich (KAY’-sik) says that the projects will bring jobs to Ohio. He made the comments during a news conference Wednesday to formally kick off the construction season.
Many of the projects are on tap because of Kasich’s decision to raise about $1.5 billion for state highway projects through Ohio Turnpike bonds.
The Blade newspaper in Toledo reports that state transportation director Jerry Wray says many of those projects would have been delayed for years without the turnpike bonds. But some lawmakers have voiced concern that the plan will lead to higher tolls on the turnpike.
