NEW YORK (AP) - Mayor Bill de Blasio has ordered flags lowered to half-staff across the city after the death of a police officer.
Officer Dennis Guerra died Wednesday morning after being overcome by carbon monoxide from a Brooklyn fire.
Police Commissioner William Bratton presided over a flag-lowering ceremony at police headquarters.
De Blasio ordered all flags lowered on city flag poles throughout the five boroughs in honor of Guerra.
The 38-year-old officer and his partner, Rosa Rodriguez, were injured while responding to a mattress fire at a residential building on Sunday.
Rodriguez remains in critical condition.
