ALBANY, N.Y. (AP) - New York’s attorney general has reached an agreement with Vornado Realty Corp. to pay $70,000 and ensure disabled drivers’ access to parking in lots and garages at 20 shopping centers the company owns around the state.
The settlement requires upgrades to comply with the federal Americans with Disabilities Act.
Investigators responding to complaints reported parking access barriers at shopping centers in Queens and the Bronx, including a ramp that was too steep, missing handrails and a handicapped-accessible route that ended at an abrupt step down.
Vornado has agreed to fix any similar barriers to handicapped parking at five shopping centers in New York City, seven on Long Island and others in Albany, Broome, Dutchess, Erie, Monroe, Onondaga and Westchester counties.
