MILWAUKEE (AP) - The NCAA has banned Wisconsin-Milwaukee’s basketball team from postseason play next season for failing to meet academic standards.
The school said Wednesday the NCAA’s Committee on Academic Performance denied its final appeal of a postseason ban.
Milwaukee’s men’s basketball score for the current four-year 2012-13 cycle was 908, which fell below the mandated minimum of 930.
Athletic Director Amanda Braun says school officials are confident they’ve addressed the academic performance of student-athletes.
In addition to the postseason ban, Milwaukee will have to replace four hours of practice each week with four hours of academic activities. Basketball activities will be limited to five days instead of six.
The Panthers had a late-season run that ended last month with a 73-53 loss to Villanova in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
