TOLEDO, Ohio (AP) - A convicted murderer who a judge once said could be “a serial killer in the making” has been indicted in the previously unsolved 1976 slaying of a 20-year-old woman in Toledo.
The grand jury in Lucas County on Tuesday indicted 57-year-old Martin Woods in the killing of Rebecca Gerst. Her body was found strangled and bleeding in her Toledo apartment in February 1976.
The (Toledo) Blade (https://bit.ly/1hrAYoo ) reports that Woods - serving a life sentence for two other murders - was linked the Gerst case through “advanced technology,” but officials declined to say if DNA implicated him in the slaying.
Woods had pleaded guilty in 1990 to murder and felonious assault in the slayings of two women in exchange for avoiding the death penalty. Attorney information wasn’t immediately available.
