House Speaker John Boehner got emotional Tuesday during an event on Capitol Hill, choking back tears as he praised the Taco Bell Foundation and Boys & Girls Clubs of America for their work with underprivileged teens.

“Some of you know how I am about these things,” the Ohio Republican said as tears welled, U.S. News reported. “We need to do a better job at educating more American kids. We live in America, for goodness’ sake.”

The Taco Bell Foundation donated $30 million to the Boys & Girls Clubs of America to help teens graduate from high school, U.S. News reported.

Mr. Boehner was joined by former Destiny’s Child singer Kelly Rowland, who told the magazine she was moved by Mr. Boehner.

“He’s so sweet,” she said. “[Politicians] are dealing with so much on a regular day-to-day schedule. … You’ve got to respect those people who are in politics.”
