Former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton gave the surest sign ever that she’s truly heading down the path of White House campaigning in 2016, telling a CNN interviewer that the thought had not only crossed her mind — no surprise there — but that she’s actually now mulling the pros and cons.
“I am thinking about it,” she said, in the media report. “But I am going to think about it for a while.”
Mrs. Clinton is the clear frontrunner for the Democratic Party. Other talked-about candidates include Vice President Joseph R. Biden and Maryland Gov. Martin O’Malley.
But the former first lady’s dance around the decision has been having a freeze effect on other possible candidates to raise money, The Wall Street Journal reported. Basically, those with money are in many cases delaying donations, pending Mrs. Clinton’s decisions.
“She’s Gladys Knight and all the rest of them are the Pips,” said Robert Zimmerman, a big-time Democratic donor, comparing Mrs. Clinton to the possible other Democratic presidential candidates, The Wall Street Journal reported.
Mrs. Clinton has continued to titillate about a possible White House run, telling a New Orleans audience in January that she was “not thinking about” 2016 and was in fact trying to stop others from thinking that far in the future.
She said, CNN reported: “I will think about it in the future sometime, but right now let’s think about what we have to do to continue building on our success.”
But last month, she told a crowd in Arizona that she was “obviously thinking about all kinds of decisions,” CNN reported.
