Sen. Joe Manchin, West Virginia Democrat, said Wednesday that the issue of the wage gap between men and women — something that he says should be common sense — has been overly politicized.
That could effect the outcome of a procedural vote on the Paycheck Fairness Act expected Wednesday in the Senate. When asked if it would pass, the co-sponsor of the bill couldn’t provide a definitive yes.
“I sure hope it does,” he said on MSNBC. “I just hope the politics isn’t played as usual as you see here in Washington.”
He was critical of President Obama’s highly political speech that condemned Republicans at an executive order signing on Tuesday and said that’s not the best way to work across the aisle.
“You’ve got to reach out, you can’t put people in a box and basically keep embarrassing them,” he said.
