STANARDSVILLE, Va. (AP) - A former Greene County deputy has been sentenced for soliciting a minor online.

Virginia State Police say 56-year-old Robert L. Beverage of Ruckersville was sentenced Tuesday in Greene County Circuit Court to two years in jail. Another two years was suspended.

Beverage also must register as a sex offender when he is released.

He had pleaded guilty to two counts of online solicitation of a minor.

State police say Beverage solicited and received at least eight images depicting child pornography from an underage female in 2013. Beverage met the girl in 2013 while serving as a prisoner transport and courtroom security deputy.
