DOTHAN, Ala. (AP) - City leaders in Dothan are considering what to do with a long-vacant Air National Guard Armory and the land around it.

The Dothan Eagle reports (https://bit.ly/PQYTSu) that city commissioners believe it is time to find a use for the building, the land — or both.

The old armory building has been vacated for several years. The land around it is substantially unused, other than as a gathering area for seized or abandoned vehicles.

The city acquired the final parcels of land from the Guard in 2012. The Dothan newspaper reports that the land is in an attractive location near Westgate Park.

Several potential governmental uses have been mentioned. The land could also be attractive for private developers or businesses which may be interested in buying or leasing the land.
