DETROIT (AP) - Detroit police ended a roughly 12-hour search for a man speaking Russian who called 911 saying he was kidnapped and had been stabbed in the leg.

Police on Tuesday searched a five-square-mile area along and near Detroit’s east riverfront for the man, who first called about 9:15 a.m. Tuesday. He told police he was inside a building but didn’t know the exact location.

Police says the man reported being a visiting Russian military member. Police eventually brought in an interpreter to help them communicate with the man, who called back periodically. Police ended the search shortly before 9 p.m. Tuesday.

Officers searched abandoned buildings, and overgrown lots and fields. State and federal authorities joined in the effort.

Police say the search won’t resume unless there’s more credible information.
