MIAMI (AP) - The United States Coast Guard says a 44-year-old man is in stable condition after being airlifted from a cruise ship off the coast of Pompano Beach.

A medical crew aboard the Carnival Sensation notified the Coast Guard around 3 a.m. Wednesday that the man was experiencing respiratory issues.

Officials say the cruise ship’s medical crew discussed the man’s condition with the Coast Guard’s on-duty flight surgeon and determined a medevac was necessary.

An aircrew from Coast Guard Air Station Miami brought the man and a nurse to Broward Health Medical Center in Fort Lauderdale.
