CHICAGO (AP) - An alleged Chicago gang member convicted of first-degree murder in the deaths of a pregnant woman and her 7-year-old daughter has been sentenced to 90 years in prison.
Cook County prosecutors contend Jovan Djurdjlov started the deadly blaze in January 2009 that left 23-year-old Roxana Ocampo and 7-year-old Itzel Fernandez dead.
The Chicago Sun-Times reports (https://bit.ly/1n5aCrD ) prosecutors said Djurdjlov planned the fire in the three-flat in Chicago’s Albany Park neighborhood to settle a feud with the Spanish Gangster Disciples. Djurdjlov believed a rival gang member lived in the building. He poured gasoline on the inner stairwell of the building and set it ablaze.
Ocampo and her daughter died of smoke inhalation. Her then 4-year-old son survived the fire.
During Wednesday’s sentencing, Judge Lawrence Flood noted Djurdjlov never showed remorse.
