OKLAHOMA CITY (AP) - Republican U.S. Rep. Jim Bridenstine is officially a candidate for a second term in Oklahoma’s 1st Congressional District in Tulsa.
The 38-year-old Bridenstine filed paperwork to seek another two-year term on Wednesday, the first day of a three-day filing period that ends Friday.
A tea party favorite, Bridenstine knocked off a five-term incumbent in the GOP primary in 2012 and then coasted to victory in the general election in the seat that has been in Republican hands since 1986. The seat includes the city of Tulsa and a large swath of northeastern Oklahoma.
A Navy pilot, Bridenstine pondered a run for the U.S. Senate earlier this year after U.S. Sen. Tom Coburn announced he was stepping down with two years remaining on his term.
