DAYTON, Ohio (AP) - House Speaker John Boehner is telling Dayton officials not to fear future base-closing commissions, saying that Wright-Patterson Air Force Base could add jobs during the next round of base closings.

Boehner, a Republican from West Chester Township, spoke to Dayton business, civic and university officials in Washington Tuesday.

The Dayton Daily News (https://bit.ly/1iwm10S ) reports that Boehner told the group it will “years down the road” before the federal government forms another base closing commission. He said he thinks there are still too many open bases around the country, but said the region could gain during the next round of base closures “if we go on offense.”

Boehner spoke at an event designed to emphasize to Washington officials how crucial Wright-Patterson is to the Dayton area economy.
