TORONTO (AP) - The Blue Jays have recalled right-hander Neil Wagner from Triple-A Buffalo and optioned right-hander Marcus Walden to their top farm club.
Wagner went 2-4 with a 3.79 ERA in 36 games with Toronto last season. He also appeared in six games with Oakland in 2011.
Walden was recalled from Buffalo on Saturday after the Blue Jays demoted right-hander Jeremy Jeffress. He did not pitch for Toronto.
Wagner, 30, had two saves in two chances with Buffalo this season and had not allowed a run in 2 1-3 innings.
With closer Casey Janssen (back) on the 15-day disabled list, manager John Gibbons said the Blue Jays promoted Wagner on Wednesday to give them more “firepower” at the back of the bullpen.
