MONTPELIER, Vt. (AP) - The National Weather Service says the Barton River in Vermont’s Orleans County is expected to cause minor flooding.
Flooding is expected when the river reaches 8 feet and forecasters are calling for it to be at least 8.5 feet overnight Tuesday into Wednesday. Flooding from that river usually occurs in the vicinity of Orleans and Coventry.
City officials are also monitoring rivers near Montpelier and are hopeful that the Vermont capital will avoid serious flooding. Fire Chief Robert Gowans told The Barre-Montpelier Times Argus (https://bit.ly/1isDlnr) that he doesn’t think there will be flooding as the Winooski River is mostly ice-free.
The National Weather Service projects that the Winooski, which runs through the city, will not reach flood levels.
