RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Virginia State Police are investigating a collision between a trooper’s cruiser and a minivan that occurred as the officer was pursuing another vehicle.

State police spokeswoman Corinne Geller says Trooper M.W. Deus, the minivan’s 31-year-old female driver and her 10-year-old and 9-year-old daughters suffered non-life threatening injuries. They were taken to VCU Medical Center for treatment.

The woman’s 1-year-old son wasn’t injured.

The accident occurred Monday afternoon in Richmond. Geller says Deus attempted to stop another minivan for expired license plates and illegal window tint. The vehicle stopped but then fled as Deus approached it.

Deus pursued the vehicle and his cruiser collided with the second minivan as it entered an intersection. Geller says witnesses told investigators that the cruiser’s lights and siren were activated at the time.
