At least two were killed and another 20 hurt from powerful storms and tornadoes that ripped across much of the Southeast over the past two days.
One of the killed included a 9-year-old girl who was swept away by Mississippi flood waters, NBC News reported. The other casualty — age and gender unknown — was discovered in a car that had steered into Jackson Creek in Georgia, just outside of Atlanta.
Numerous others have been taken to medical facilities for treatment of storm-related injuries, while survivors were left tending to their destroyed properties, including at least a dozen farms hit particularly hard by a confirmed tornado in Beaufort County, N.C.
The storms have mostly passed, though residents in Georgia and Florida were told to be prepared for residual weather patterns that could bring some heavy rains and winds.
