SAN FRANCISCO (AP) - A technology mogul and his wife are donating $100 million to two San Francisco Bay area children’s hospitals for new facilities, doctors and research.
Salesforce.com founder and CEO Marc Benioff and his wife Lynne on Tuesday announced the donation, which which will benefit University of California, San Francisco’s Benioff Children’s Hospital and Children’s Hospital Oakland.
The couple had already given UCSF $100 million in 2010.
Benioff told the San Francisco Chronicle (https://bit.ly/1sxOeeq ) that the couple hopes to create the best children’s hospitals in the world.
After initially only funding UCSF, Benioff says the economic boom fueled by technology companies in the area should also benefit Oakland.
Dr. Michael Cabana, chief of General Pediatrics at UCSF, says the money will allow medical researchers to implement new treatments more quickly.
