BELEK, Turkey (AP) - International ski federation chief Gian-Franco Kasper has been elected head of the association of Olympic winter sports bodies.
The 70-year-old Kasper was elected Tuesday, succeeding International Ice Hockey Federation president and fellow Swiss Rene Fasel.
Fasel had served as president of the Association of International Olympic Winter Sports Federations since 2002. The body represents the seven sports in the Winter Games.
Kasper led the association from 2000-02.
It wasn’t immediately clear whether Kasper would replace Fasel on the International Olympic Committee executive board.
Also Tuesday, World Archery president Ugur Erdener of Turkey was elected to the executive council of the Association of Summer Olympic International Federations. He replaces Pat McQuaid, the former head of international cycling federation union.
The elections took place during the SportAccord convention in Belek.
