The National Republican Senatorial Committee boasted its largest fundraising month this election cycle, cashing in at $6.35 million.
The latest figure shows continued progress for the GOP Senate campaigns, and suggests Republican candidates may be on their way to picking up six contested seats they need to win in order to regain a majority in the Senate.
“Another record month shows that we are building momentum and that Republicans across the country are highly energized,” NRSC Vice Chairman Rob Portman, Ohio Republican, said during the announcement at the weekly GOP Senate lunch, the Washington Post reported.
Campaign finance records show the NRSC’s total fundraising for the first quarter of 2014 now stands at more than $16.4 million with no outstanding debt.
“Thanks to the strong financial support of thousands of people and my GOP colleagues, great candidates across the map, and an optimistic agenda, Republicans are one step closer to bringing back the Senate this fall, but there is still work to be done,” Mr. Portman said.
However, the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee may still surpass the NRSC’s numbers. While the DSCC has not yet released it’s fundraising totals for March, it raised $6.8 million in February with total cash-on-hand standing at $18.1 million, albeit with $1.2 million in debt.
