WEST PALM BEACH, Fla. (AP) - A state-approved curriculum to guide classes about the Everglades is now available to Florida teachers.

The Everglades Foundation unveiled lesson plans for grades kindergarten through 12 on Monday in West Palm Beach. The Palm Beach Post reports the curriculum was tested in pilot programs in five counties.

Everglades Foundation board member James Kushlan says not everyone understands the importance of the Everglades and the teaching guides aim to make every student literate on the subject.

The curriculum was created through a partnership of the foundation, Florida Atlantic University, the Pine Jog Environmental Education Center and a panel of state teachers.
