Rep. Vance McAllister, caught on video in deep kisses with his Capitol Hill staffer, has asked for forgiveness from his wife, from his staff and constituents and from God.

Mr. McAllister’s local Louisiana newspaper published what it said was surveillance video of the Republican making out with one of his female workers.

“There’s no doubt I’ve fallen short, and I’m asking for forgiveness. I’m asking for forgiveness from God, my wife, my kids, my staff and my constituents who elected me to serve,” he said, CNN reported. “Trust is something I know has to be earned whether [you’re] a husband, a father or a congressman. I promise to do everything I can to earn back the trust of everyone I’ve disappointed.”

Mr. McAllister, who’s married with five children, also said he’s always tried to be “an honest man,” CNN reported.

“I ran for [C]ongress to make a difference and not to just be another politician,” he said. “I don’t want to make a political statement on this. I would just simply like to say that I’m very sorry for what I’ve done.”

The woman captured in the video — which the local Ouachita Citizen newspaper reported was shot in December — is also married, the news outlet said.

Mr. McAllister was voted into office in November in a special election for GOP Rep. Rodney Alexander’s seat, on the heels of a campaign that touted his conservative Christian beliefs.
