Fans of Archie Andrews can go back to 1941 to find his first adventures. This summer, they’ll be able to see how he dies.
The ’Life With Archie’ comic book series has shown how Archie, Betty, Jughead, and Veronica deal with growing up after high school, but on July 16 its central character will die in issue #36 and officially end with issue #37 one week later, CNN reported.
“Archie dies as he lived — heroically. He dies saving the life of a friend, and does it in his usual selfless way. Archie has always been a representation of us — the best of us. Our strengths and our faults,” Archie Comics CEO Jon Goldwater told CNN.
Writer Paul Kupperberg told the news outlet that he hopes readers will agree with him that an “emotional, impactful and classic story,” that will “survive the test of time” was crafted for the character’s final moments.
Mr. Goldwater added that fans of the character will still be able to read of his high school exploits, as the ’Archie’ comics that focus on that time period will continue.
