VAIL, Colo. (AP) - Two years after seeing a historic low, Vail Valley businesses are celebrating a good snow year.

The Vail Daily, citing figures tracked by the federal Natural Resources Conservation Service, reports (https://tinyurl.com/pdr5ngf ) Tuesday that as of the end of last week, measurements taken at Vail show snowpack above the 30-year peak of 22.5 inches. Across the Colorado River basin, snowpack was 31 percent higher than the 30-year average. A historic low was recorded in 2012.

The Daily quoted Sean Glackin, who co-owns Alpine Quest stores in Edwards and Vail with his wife Cory, as saying he expects a long backcountry touring season for spring.

Ice-fishing entrepreneur Steve Visosky says it’s only been in the past few weeks that even high-elevation lakes and reservoirs have become too slushy for business.
