AUGUSTA, Mich. (AP) - A church employee in southwestern Michigan who heard strange noises and spotted a break-in suspect called 911, helping authorities make a quick arrest.
The Kalamazoo County sheriff’s department says the employee arrived Tuesday morning at St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Augusta and spotted a person in dark clothing with a flashlight.
The employee called 911 stayed on the line with the dispatcher, updating information for responding deputies, and spotted the suspect fleeing.
The suspect, a 22-year-old from Kalamazoo County, was arrested nearby. Investigators say the suspect broke into a safe at the church The suspect’s name wasn’t immediately released, pending an arraignment. All stolen property from the church was recovered.
