CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - As attempted thefts go, this one may have hit a low note.

A 22-year-old Champaign man is facing a single theft charge after authorities say he snatched a cello from a music store.

The (Champaign) News-Gazette reports (https://bit.ly/1iskzwh ) the would-be musical thief was charged Monday.

Investigators say he ran out of Corson Music on Friday afternoon, only to be stopped by another customer who spotted him wielding the purloined stringed instrument.

The customer brought the man - and the cello - back to the store.

He was later released on his own recognizance and is set to appear in court later this month.
