ROCHESTER, N.Y. (AP) - A western New York woman is on trial for buying the guns a man used to kill two volunteer firefighters on Christmas Eve 2012.

Attorneys delivered opening statements Monday in the case of Dawn Nguyen (wehn) in state Supreme Court in Rochester.

She’s charged with falsifying a business record for allegedly lying on a form when she bought weapons in 2010 for William Spengler Jr., a convicted felon. More than two years later, Spengler set fire to his home in Webster, then fatally shot two firefighters and wounded two others before committing suicide.

The Democrat & Chronicle of Rochester (https://on.rocne.ws/QYreY7 ) reports that both attorneys noted in their opening statements that what Nguyen is accused of is separate from what Spengler did with the guns.

Nguyen also faces similar federal charges.
