TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) - Tempe firefighters used a ladder to rescue two people during a fire in townhome early Monday morning.

Alerted by smoke detectors, the residents got out through a second-story window and were on a a ledge when firefighters arrived and set up the ladder.

The residents made it down safely and are OK. Their cat suffered minor smoke inhalation.

Cause of the fire is under investigation. It may have started in the garage.
