ST. LOUIS (AP) - The Cincinnati Reds have activated catcher Devin Mesoraco from the 15-day disabled list and say he will get the bulk of the playing time this season.
Mesoraco began the year on the DL because of an injured side. The Reds optioned catcher Tucker Barnhart to Triple-A Louisville. He was 2 for 8 in three games.
Mesoraco wasn’t in the starting lineup Monday at St. Louis. Manager Bryan Price says he had Bryan Pena catching Tony Cingrani because the two worked well together in the second game of the season. Cingrani worked seven scoreless innings in a 1-0 loss to St. Louis.
Price also said the team expects to activate reliever Johnathan Broxton from a forearm injury during the Reds’ three-game series in St. Louis.
