DETROIT (AP) - State police say the body of a man was found near a shuttered zoo on Detroit’s Belle Isle.
Police say the body was found Sunday night and state Department of Natural Resources officers responded to the scene at the island park in the Detroit River.
Police say in a statement it doesn’t appear that foul play is a factor and it appears that the body was there for a “long period of time.” Police say the body wasn’t immediately identified. An autopsy is planned to determine cause of death. Police and the DNR are investigating.
The DNR this year took over management of 985-acre Belle Isle as part of cost-cutting efforts by the bankrupt city of Detroit.
