SYRACUSE, N.Y. (AP) - The weekend training runs held in preparation for Syracuse’s Mountain Goat Run have gotten so popular they’re larger than many road races. That popularity is forcing organizers to make some changes.
Race Director Ed Griffin tells The Post-Standard of Syracuse (https://bit.ly/1lKJHDU ) that the police department says it has received complaints from neighbors and merchants because the Saturday morning training runs typically attract between 700 and 800 runners.
Organizers of the Mountain Goat Run hold training runs for six straight weeks leading up to the 10-mile race, being held May 4. Because of the big turnout for the training runs, Griffin agreed to reduce their number from six to four and to start them a half-hour earlier at 7:30 a.m.
Organizers pay for police coverage for the training runs and for the race.
