Del. Eleanor Holmes Norton said Monday that women shouldn’t hold their breath for Congress to pass legislation this year that would mandate equal pay for men and women.
“We’re talking about a Congress that can’t even pass appropriations bills and budgets, so don’t expect Congress to pass an equal pay act or the fair pay act, any of the bills pending,” D.C.’s nonvoting member of Congress said on MSNBC.
The Senate plans to vote Tuesday on the Paycheck Fairness Act, MSNBC reported. President Obama is also scheduled to sign an executive order Tuesday that will further the cause of equal pay among federal contractors.
“The president is using his executive power to do what the do-nothing Congress won’t,” Ms. Norton said.
