Vandals have been flipping Smart cars in San Francisco in what appears to be a bizarre twist on cow tipping.

According to a local NBC affiliate, four Smart cars were targeted in the area between Sunday night and Monday morning. Three of them were either sitting on their headlights or vice versa.

A fourth Smart car with a faded “Obama-Biden” bumper sticker was discovered lying on its right side Monday about 9 a.m. at Coso and Prospect avenues between the Mission District and Bernal Heights, the station reported.

Shelley Gallivan, who was watching the car for a friend, chalked the vandalism up to “misdirected anger.”

Eyewitness Brandon Michael said he saw six to eight people wearing hooded sweatshirts flip over the cars about 1 a.m. Monday.

“They looked like they were up to no good,” he told NBC. “And sure enough, they huddled around it and lifted it up.”

San Francisco Police Officer Gordon Shyy said the suspects are still at large. The exact motives behind the vandalism are unclear.

Smart Automobile is headquartered in Boblingen, Germany. Its cars start at about $13,000, the station reported.

The Smart car website has a forum where frustrated drivers affected by the prank can complain.
