NEW YORK (AP) - The president and executive director of the Queens Museum will be named New York City’s next cultural affairs commissioner.
The New York Times (https://nyti.ms/PErPNF ) says Tom Finkelpearl will be in charge of a $156 million budget.
Mayor Bill de Blasio tells the Times that Finkelpearl “has developed an exceptional record of fortifying the city’s cultural institutions across all five boroughs.”
Finkelpearl has run Queens Museum since 2002. Previously he ran the Percent for Art, a Cultural Affairs program that requires 1 percent of the budget for city-funded construction be spent on public artwork.
He has also served as deputy director of the P.S. 1 Contemporary Art Center in Queens.
Finkelpearl told the Times he and the mayor have discussed shared principals, including making art available to every child citywide.
