A male passenger was found lying in a pool of blood in the lavatory on a recent flight to Hyderabad, Dubai-based Emirates airline confirmed.

The airline said that on April 4, the 30-year-old man was found by cabin crew after he apparently tried to commit suicide by slicing his throat and hands with a sharp blade, the Associated Press reported.

“The crew administered all the necessary treatment onboard… Upon arrival into Hyderabad the passenger was met by medical crews and taken to a nearby hospital. As a result of this incident the aircraft was unable to be utilized for the carriage of passengers and has been flown back to Dubai for maintenance,” the carrier said in a statement.

According to police, the man had been working as a draftsman in Dubai. Dr. Ravi Shankar in Hyderabad says the man is in stable condition on Monday.
