GREENVILLE, S.C. (AP) - Officials in a South Carolina city have named an officer with nearly 30 years of experience as the interim police chief in Greenville.
Police Maj. Mike Gambrell will take over for Chief Terri Wilfong after she steps down on April 15.
Wilfong was the first woman ever to lead the Greenville Police Department and announced her retirement last month.
Gambrell leads the operations division of the police department. He has worked for the force for 29 years.
Greenville officials plan a nationwide search for Wilfong’s replacement.
