WILMINGTON, N.C. (AP) - The building that was the tallest in Wilmington for almost 100 years is on the auction block.

The StarNews of Wilmington reported (https://bit.ly/1jU9jfe ) the 11-story Murchison (merk-UH-son) Building will be sold on Auction.com starting May 5.

Bidding opens at $350,000. New Hanover County records list the building’s tax value as more than $5 million.

Built in 1914, the Murchison Building was the tallest in the city’s skyline until 2007, when the 12-story PPD building was completed. The auction website says just 47 percent of the building’s more than 60,000 square feet is occupied.

Garry Silivanch of Coldwell Banker Commercial in Wilmington says the building has some long-term tenants and panoramic views of the Cape Fear River. But he says it needs refurbishing.

Ziff Properties of Charleston, S.C., owns the building.
