INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - The school that Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens twice led to the NCAA men’s basketball championship game is awarding him an honorary doctorate degree.

Butler University says Stevens will receive the honor during the May 10 commencement ceremony in Indianapolis.

Butler President James Danko says it will be a chance to thank Stevens for his coaching work and continued close ties with the university.

The Celtics hired Stevens as their coach in July after he spent six years as Butler’s coach and seven years as a Butler assistant. Stevens led the Bulldogs to the NCAA runner-up finishes in 2010 and 2011.
