BISMARCK, N.D. (AP) - A Bismarck eighth-grader will represent North Dakota at the National Geographic Bee next month.

Home-schooled Erik Johnson won the state bee last week at the University of Mary in Bismarck. The Bismarck Tribune reports (https://bit.ly/1gCUh8f ) that he beat out 100 other students. He won $100, a National Geographic Atlas and a trip to Washington, D.C., for the national competition May 19-21.

Will Rice of Devils Lake placed second at the state bee and Keshava Katti of Fargo took third.
