FRANKFORT, Ky. (AP) - Andy Beshear says he has raised more than $1 million in his bid to become Kentucky’s next attorney general.
The son of Democratic Gov. Steve Beshear announced Monday he has raised $1.1 million, including $880,000 in the first quarter of 2014.
In a news release, Andy Beshear also announced the endorsement of former governor and former U.S. Sen. Wendell Ford. Current Democratic Attorney General Jack Conway is not running for re-election because of term limits. The election is in November 2015.
“I was also thrilled our good friend Sen. Wendell Ford came out and publicly endorsed Andy in his race. I think that will bode well for the results,” Gov. Steve Beshear said at a news conference on Monday.
Also on Monday Republican gubernatorial candidate Hal Heiner - who formally declared his candidacy last month - announced he had raised $286,350 for his campaign, which includes $200,000 of his own money. He has $191,192 available to spend.
Full fundraising reports were not available Monday evening.
So far, Beshear and Heiner are the only statewide candidates for 2015 to file paperwork with the Kentucky Registry of Election Finance.
