LITCHFIELD PARK, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say 12-year-old boy who said two people tried to abduct him at a Phoenix bus stop made up the story.

Maricopa County Sheriff’s officials announced Monday afternoon that the attempted kidnapping is a hoax.

It isn’t immediately clear if the unidentified juvenile will face any charges.

Sheriff’s deputies say the boy earlier told authorities that he was walking to the bus stop outside the gate of the Russell Ranch community around 8 a.m. on Phoenix’s west side.

The boy says a knife-wielding suspect attempted to get him into a gray pickup driven by a second suspect.

The boy wasn’t injured and he ran home and called 911.

That triggered a search for the supposed suspects.
