SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) - Prosecutors say a suspect wanted in the fatal shooting of an Iraqi man in a Home Depot parking lot in Northern California has confessed to the crime.
Butte County Deputy District Attorney Jessica Miller says 44-year-old Jeffrey Caylor declared in open court Thursday that he is pleading guilty to all charges against him.
Caylor has been awaiting transfer in Butte County, where he is being held on charges related to crimes he is accused of committing before and after the killing of 46-year-old Hassan Alawsi.
Caylor is accused of stalking Alawsi in the parking lot for eight minutes before firing two fatal gunshots on March 16.
The Sacramento Bee reports (https://bit.ly/1hQM8BL) leaders in Sacramento’s Muslim community feared the killing was racially motivated. Sacramento County authorities have issued arrest warrants for Caylor in connection with the killing.
