PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - Mark this as a sign spring is really here: The city of Providence is starting up its street sweeping and yard waste collection programs.

Mayor Angel Taveras and Councilman John Igliozzi will formally kick off the street sweeping program in Ward 7 Monday.

The mayor says residents should be aware of temporary no parking signs during the cleanup process.

Providence is also soon restarting its yard debris collection service. Debris should be left curbside on regular recycling and trash collection days. Clippings, leaves and sticks should be placed in paper yard waste bags or open barrels.

That service begins April 14.
