RIVERSIDE, N.Y. (AP) - State police say an elderly woman who suffered from dementia and was reported missing last week while walking her dog has been found dead in a nature preserve on Long Island.

Authorities say the body of 82-year-old Jean Taber, of Riverside, was located Sunday afternoon deep in the rugged terrain of the David A. Sarnoff Preserve in the Pine Barrens several miles from her home.

State police tell Newsday the dog, a white cocker spaniel, was found alive by her side and was taken to a veterinarian for examination.
