SAN JOSE, Calif. (AP) - Immigrant advocates and supporters were arrested in San Jose as part of a nationwide set of protests aimed at pushing President Barack Obama to put a freeze on deportations.
San Jose Police Sgt. Heather Randol says a dozen peaceful protesters were cited for failure to disperse and released after they sat down in the intersection of Story and King roads on Saturday.
Randol tells The San Jose Mercury News (https://bit.ly/1hvlj1l) that protesters had let the department know of their intent in advance, so authorities put out an advisory on Friday warning motorists of potential delays at the East San Jose intersection.
Organizers of the national “Day of Action” demonstrations said Obama has the executive power to stop deportations that separate immigrants living in the country illegally from their loved ones.
