SAN ANTONIO (AP) - A military police officer convicted of sexual misconduct at Guantanamo Bay has been sentenced to two years in prison following a court-martial in Texas.

A military judge convicted Army 1st Sgt. Richard Smith on charges that he mistreated three females he supervised in Cuba. The alleged misconduct included telling a corporal to be a “cuddle buddy” and having sex with two of the women.

The San Antonio Express-News reports (https://bit.ly/1fWxIvN ) that Smith had pleaded guilty to charges of adultery and lying to a captain about his alleged misdeeds. He was sentenced late Friday.

The trial was held at Joint Base San Antonio-Lackland. The base has been enmeshed in its own scandal as more than 30 Air Force instructors have been charged with sexual misconduct against trainees.
